Societas Liturgica Congress 2011: Reims, France
"Baptism: Rites and Christian Life"

The next Congress of Societas Liturgica will be held in Reims, France. August 8th-13th, 2011.

The congress in Reims will offer a time to engage in a survey of the state of research concerning the relationship between rituals and theologies, their diversities and their convergences. The intention is to do this work in an ecumenical context considering both history and the contemporary setting based on the liturgical books and practices in force in the various Christian denominations. In such a way, this research will seek to do justice, explicitly and methodologically, to the ecumenical vocation of the Societas. Reflection on the subject of baptism was one of the cornerstones of twentieth century ecumenical research, and the Societas Liturgica was deeply engaged in this task.

2011 AAL National Conference:
"Worship in Small Congregations"

The 2011 National Conference was held in January. The theme of the conference was "Worship in small congregations" (with or without the presence of an ordained person.) The growing number of small congregations within all the denominations represented in the Academy presents significant challenges for the leadership of worship and the celebration of the sacraments, both now and into the future.

The conference was held at Trinity College, University of Melbourne January 17-20, 2011. Father Gerard Kelly and Pastor Ross Neville delivered the keynote addresses, and the public lecture was delivered by Rev David Orr OSB. Click here for profiles of these speakers.
