Societas Liturgica Conference 2009: New Website Launched

Click here to go to the new website for the Sydney Societas Liturgica Conference 2009 to be held in Sydney, Australia in August 2009. The site has been prepared by Cathy Murrowood and Paul Mason and is hosted on the the Australian Academy of Liturgy's website.

Lecturer Sought at UTC Sydney

United Theological College Sydney is seeking to appoint a lecturer responsible for the teaching and oversight of Worship and Practical Theology. Click here for further details. Applications for this position close on 20th February 2009.

Members' News Around the Traps

Joan McCrae is recovering well from an accident a few months ago in which her foot was seriously injured and will be attending the conference in Canberra.
John Fitz-Herbert had been the victim of a daylight assault in central Chicago but is on the mend and has started the new semester of study.
Paul Mason has an article in the current (September) issue of Worship Magazine.
Dr Veronica Rosier op has resigned after 20 years as lecturer in liturgy at the School of Theology at the Australian Catholic University and has transferred to a convent of nuns in the monastic-contemplative tradition near Vancouver in Canada.
David Orr is currently on sabbatical at St John’s Collegeville.
Angela McCarthy has an article currently on the Envision Church website and agreed to have it put on the AAL website.

New Program to Support Music Ministry

The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM), in partnership with J.S. Paluch, Liturgy Training Publications and Oregon Catholic Press, is establishing a new graduate level program that will focus on music ministry in the Church.  Click here for details.

Members' News Around the Traps

Elizabeth Harrington has had surgery for cancer and now begins a lengthy process of chemotherapy and radium therapy. Please remember her in your prayers.
Garry Deverell has been appointed as Professor of Worship and Preaching at the Uniting Theological College in Melbourne. He takes up the appointment in 2009, replacing the Robert Gribben who is going to retire. Congratulations Garry!
Ray Hartley has written to express his appreciation in regard to the decision of the Council to grant him Honorary Life Membership. It is hoped to present Ray with his Certificate during our Conference in January.
News from John Fitz-Herbert in the USA indicates that he is getting on well with his studies and enjoying his time there.
Russell Hardiman is continuing to improve in health and hopes to be in attendance at the Conference in January.
Gerard Moore has recently released two new books through St Pauls publications: Lord Hear Our Prayer: Praying the General Intercessions and Why Rites of Reconciliation Matter.

Societas Liturgica Conference 2009

The Societas Executive meets in Sydney this September. As previously reported, Tom Elich, Charles Sherlock and Anita Monro will be presenting a group paper at the Conference. Clare Johnson will be one of several participants offering a reflection at the conclusion of the Conference.

2009 AAL Conference (January 19-22)

Arrangements for our own Conference to be held at the John XXIII College in Canberra are now well advanced. Information and registration forms, including a call for papers from members, are now posted on the website and will shortly be sent directly to members as well. Please register as soon as possible.

The major theme for our Conference will be “The Liturgical Year” with a particular focus on dealing with the dissonance between the language, imagery and symbolism of the liturgy and real time in the Southern Hemisphere. This will help us prepare for the Societas Liturgica Conference that will convene in Sydney from the 10th-15th August 2009.

AAL Group in Newcastle

A new AAL group, attached to the NSW Chapter, is being established in Newcastle with Andrew Doohan as Convenor. We wish them well!

Ray Hartley Life Membership

The Council has conferred Honorary Life Membership on Ray Hartley in recognition of his long association and significant contribution to the AAL. Congratulations Ray!

Membership Fee for Those Retired

As from 2009 the membership fee for retirees will be $15. This includes the AAL Journal subscription.

Paul Mason Releases "Psalms for All Time"
