New Members: The Academy welcomes new members Erica Marshall, Francios Kunc and Sophy Morley.
Member news: Paul Mason has been appointed by Bishop Ingham as Coordinator of Liturgy for the Catholic Diocese of Wollongong.
Australian Journal of Liturgy: Following the January conference there is an embarrassment of riches to be published. The May edition will include all the keynote addresses and other interesting reading.
Website: The members section of the website is very rarely used so it will soon be deleted from the site. Past editions of the AJL will in future be scanned and uploaded to the website. Indexes from latest volumes will also be made available.
AAL subs payments If you have not yet paid your subs for 2011, please do so as soon as possible. Renewals have been sent out by current secretary in January but with contact details of the new executive.
Around the Chapters ...
Hunter Valley and ACT have withdrawn as active Chapters.
SA: Met in March for the first meeting of the year. Good discussion ensued. A section called ‘what’s on the boil’ encouraged discussion of activities and experiences that are liturgy related and proved to add greatly to the wealth of the discussion. Current involvement in liturgical ministries and other issues were shared. Initiation rites have been a focus of discussion. Ukranian priest, Paul Babie, will host the next meeting.
WA: Met on 12 March for the first time this year. A report from the National Conference was given by Angela McCarthy. The New Norcia experience of the final meeting of the year was also prominent. Angela was thanked for her leadership of the Chapter and congratulated for her Presidency. Liturgical events experienced by each Chapter member was shared as usual and appreciated. The upcoming liturgical installation of the next Moderator of the UCA was discussed as it is Viv’s husband.
QLD: met on 1st February in St Francis’ College. Conference feedback was appreciated. Planned the program for 2011. Next meeting will be at Maroochydore, with a presentation from John Fitzherbert about his thesis.
NSW: 15 gathered for the fist meeting. Stephen Burns gave a thought provoking paper on presiding in liturgy. Dinner was shared at the local pizzeria and those who attended were loathe to go home!! Five meetings this year are planned. Vicki Cullen (from the ACT group that no longer exists) will stay with Monica Barlow when she can to join the NSW group.
VIC: Steve is the new convenor. Discussion of the 1st meeting dwelt on the efficacy of the Eucharist and Worship when there is a split community using digital technology. Use of skype has been experienced. “Trouble with ipad confessions” was discussed. 6 people were present on 16 March with 2 Baptists and 4 Catholics. It was an interesting and enlivening discussion. There will be 5 meetings this year at St Frances Pastoral Centre.
